No Child Left Dangling

I received an email from my State Representative, Mindy Greiling alerting me to a bill in the Minnesota Legislature (HF 1489) which essentially opts Minnesota out of the No Child Left Behind program. Instead Minnesota will provide equivalent funding for school programs out of its budget.

As she makes note, Minnesota "should expect a high level of accountability and positive results from our schools", but the NCLB program simply "misses its mark."

No Child Left Behind adjustments needed

A bill to opt out of the federal government's version of No Child Left Behind has been moving through the Minnesota Senate. Its chief author, Sen. Steve Kelley, DFL-Hopkins, said that it's time for states to quit approaching federal education officials on bended knee and to now demand changes.
