James Byrne of St. Paul said his cat Muffin, a 6-year-old gray striped tabby, always appeared healthy but now he's left wondering if recent changes in pet food led to her death.
Cat and dog owners across the country have found themselves in the same predicament when one of the largest pet food manufacturers announced a recall last week for 60 million containers of its wet food products.
Menu Foods, an Emporia, Kan.-based company, said through a spokesperson it recalled the "cuts and gravy" products sold throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico when it learned of complaints that at least 10 pets died from eating the food. It's unknown how many more cats or dogs may have suffered kidney failure or death because of the food.
