Minnesotans take stand on the judicial filibuster

The StarTribune posted an article regarding Minnesotans' stance on the Judicial Filibuster.

Obviously this has been a very polarized issue. An issue where the two parties have changed sides depending on who was in the White House. When Clinton was in office, it was the Democrats who wanted to invoke the Nuclear Option to stop Filibusters from the Republicans. Now that Bush is in office, we find that Congress was playing musical chairs.

Now, Norm Coleman is saying: "You're not going to be confirmed if groups on the left or the right don't like you."

Isn't that the point? I don't want to have a judge on the bench who will lean too far to the left or right. I want a judge who will consider cases with a balanced view.

Now the religious right is taking action.

Steve Goold, senior pastor at Crystal Evangelical Free Church in New Hope, says he has brought up judicial nominations in his preaching and in the church newsletter, seeking to "bring light to the growing disproportionate judicial influence."

The Minnesota Family Council, a right wing conservative group, has "e-mailed its 13,000-person mailing list last Thursday, urging recipients to contact Dayton's and Coleman's offices "to support efforts ensuring that federal judicial appointees be given an up-or-down vote by the entire U.S. Senate." Tom Prichard, the organization's president, said recent court decisions regarding same-sex marriage have "really heightened a public awareness" about judicial nominees."

I think its time to redouble our efforts.
